How a Football Squares Pool Works
A game of Super Bowl squares (also called football squares, Super Bowl boxes, square pool, or squares board) is simple. The sheet has 10 rows and 10 columns, creating 100 squares.
Before the football game starts, players write their first name (or initials) in any blank boxes they want to claim. Once all boxes are filled or the number of participants is set, numbers 0–9 are randomly assigned to the top row and the left column.
You can use a random number generator or draw numbers from a hat to assign the sets of numbers. The top row represents the last digit of one team’s score, and the left row represents the last number of the other team’s score.
At the end of each quarter, you check the last digit of each team’s score. The square where those two numbers intersect is the winning square for that quarter. You can award prizes based on the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter, and end of the game, or use the version with a Final score payout instead of a 4th quarter payout.
Why Printable Football Squares Are a Great Game Day Activity
Printable Super Bowl squares templates add an extra layer of fun to any football party. They work well for hardcore football enthusiasts and casual viewers because everyone has a chance to win regardless of their football knowledge.
The excitement builds as the score changes, especially during dramatic moments like a tie breaker, extra point, field goal, or scoring run at the end of the first quarter or end of the game. People love cheering when they realize the last digit of each team might land on their winning square.
This fun game also fits perfectly with the excitement of game day. Whether you are hosting a thrilling Super Bowl party, a small hobby sports night, or even a grandmother’s tea party that turns into a football game watch, football squares bring people together.
It is a unique way to involve every guest, especially at Super Bowl parties where you have a mix of die hard fans and people who came mainly for the great food.
Playing for Prizes and Responsible Gaming Notes
You can play for a small prize pool, gift cards, snacks, bragging rights, or other fun ideas depending on the group. Some people divide the total amount evenly across all four quarters, while others prefer a larger final game score payout.
If you are playing for money, remember responsible gaming rules, make sure all participants understand the payouts, and ensure that everyone is participating for fun. If your group prefers not to gamble or you want a kid friendly version, offer prizes like a snack basket, a football party themed item, or even football themed stickers instead of cash.

These free Super Bowl squares templates are designed to be flexible, clean, and easy to use. You can print the ready-to-use version and fill in names by hand or use the customizable PDF file to prepare everything ahead of time.
