Using a Laser Machine to Make Earrings

There are a few different ways to make earrings, but the easiest way to create detailed wooden or acrylic earrings is by using a laser cutting and engraving machine. I used my xTool M1.

Making jewelry is one of the great benefits of using an xTool M1. If you want to learn more about the machine and what you can make with it, check out my full review of the xTool M1.

Why Choose a Laser Over a Blade Cutting Machine for Earrings?

Laser cut wood earrings are professional-looking, beautiful earrings. You can cut so much more intricate cuts using a laser machine and engraving comes out more pronounced.

Can I Still Use a Silhouette or Cricut Machine?

Yes. You can use both of these machines to cut very thin wood. But, you won’t be able to make as intricate designs as with a laser.

I have both a Cricut Maker and a Silhouette Cameo and love both of them. You can make so many amazing projects with both machines. While they can make wooden earrings, for best results I feel a laser cutter is the best option.

This image shows one of the pairs of earrings you can make using the Halloween earring SVG set. It's a pair of spellbooks.

If you want to make earrings using a Cricut Explore or Cricut Maker, you’ll need a Cricut knife blade and a deep blade (they can cut balsa wood and basswood up to 1.5 mm thick. If you’re using a Silhouette Cameo 3mm Kraft Blade for the Cameo 4 or the Deep Cut Blade or Kraft blade for the Cameo 3.

All of the earrings you see within my post were cut with an xTool M1 laser cutter. If you have one of the above machines, you can still use the files included (I even included Silhouette Studio files for you so that you won’t even need to have the Designer Edition of Silhouette Studio!)

Here is What Each of the Halloween Earring Designs Look Like

The earrings come 19 different designs. These are not made with Halloween clipart. Instead, each of the earrings are hand-drawn designs by me.

This image shows painted examples of the laser cut and engraved Halloween earrings using the free Halloween earring SVG set.

You’ll see some earrings inspired by Halloween from the 1980s and 1990s (like the Halloween-themed, McDonalds “boo buckets.” Or, the Pillsbury-inspired pumpkin cookie earrings below.

You can pair up the earrings however you’d like! This will make the earrings even more exciting because you can mix and match some of the earring styles.

How to Make Wooden Earrings

Want to learn more about how to make your own wood earrings? Click to see my full tutorial on how to make wooden earrings (including a video and even more free files).

What Wood Types and Acrylic Are Best for Making Earrings?

I suggest either 1/16 or 3 mm thin wood. It’s best to use a softer wood. There are a few types of wood that work, I suggest using basswood or balsa wood. But you can also use pinewood or sheets of Cricut wood veneers.

Yes, you can use a different material like acrylic. Acrylic will not work for many of the designs because they require multiple colors which can only be achieved by adding paint. In addition, if you’re planning to use the M1, it is a diode laser and cannot cut through clear acrylic – it can only cut through solid acrylic colors.

Can You Use Heat Transfer Vinyl?

You could use the free earring SVG files to create other products instead that use heat transfer vinyl. Technically, you could use the HTV on wood to create earrings as well. But this is not something I have tried before so I can’t speak on the quality or outcome.

Can I Use Faux Leather?

You can use the one spiderweb Halloween tear drop earrings SVG to create your own faux leather earrings. It will not work with the other designs.
